Describe your startup and product as if you were describing it to a non-tech person on the street.
Soledge is a French company specialized in innovative technologies for High Fidelity audio/video. Our mission: help manufacturers transform traditional loudspeakers into smart independent loudspeakers.
We propose off the shelf electronic modules, streaming application, as well as engineering services. To develop unique high quality multiroom wireless speakers, able to play any digital content coming from computers, tablets, smartphones or Internet. With a perfect and stable stereo image, thanks to our patented synchronization technologies.

Describe how you got the idea to start your business.
The idea to develop connected loudspeakers came to our CEO Raphael BINI in 2006. As a user, he wanted to put away all the unaesthetic HiFi devices and cables. He also foreseen the evolution towards all digital contents and online music services. Create a company to propose new and innovative solutions to the HiFi market became an evidence!

How does your product/service works?
We propose a complete hardware and software streaming platform, with tight synchronization technologies and Power Line Communication (PLC). Integrated in loudspeaker enclosures, you get a smart autonomous loudspeaker with only a power cord, for power supply and communication. Any connected device can play music directly, thanks to AirPlay and DLNA streaming protocols compatibility, in one or several rooms. This really is Plug and Play!

Why did you apply for the Next Step Challenge program?
Soledge already has a commercial solution, but is looking to further develop its business model and especially the Go-To-Market strategy. The Next Step Challenge proposes all the environment and coaching required to attain our goal. In addition, Denmark has a strong past and know-how in the HiFi industry.
And a collaboration with Bang and Olufsen is a great opportunity for Soledge.

Fun fact:
Danish language is very hard! Even if we have almost the same alphabet when you don’t know some words we can feel very disturbed. When first you arrive and have to pay in Danish crowns, it’s a little confusing because you don’t know which coin corresponds to what. The funny part was the first time we went to a supermarket and wanted to buy butter. Well as French people, we love eating a piece of bread with butter on it for the breakfast. We were quite confused because we simply didn’t know the word for butter and we took something looking like butter. Once home, we found out it was not butter but margarine…
Now we have learnt that in Danish butter is said smør 🙂
